Next year, 5G (5th generation mobile communication system) commercial service is scheduled to start in Japan. Therefore, we focus on “design and development of materials for 5G wireless communication systems”. The lecturers will explain in an easy-to-understand manner, from basics and overview of 5G, required characteristics for materials, and surface enhancement and interface bonding technologies to material design for low dielectric loss polyimide. We would like to ask you to participate.

Abstract : We have developed a simple and useful process for fabricating functional polymer and carbon materials modified with a variety of functionalities by surface photochemical modifications. The introduction of the functional moieties on the surface of these materials showed an improvement of their original properties while maintaining the bulk properties of polymer and carbon materials. We will also report on the nanocoating technology for the control of surface and interface functionality and for an application to joining of dissimilar materials with high joint strength for 5G FPC.
Dr. Takako Nakamura is a Chief Senior Researcher of Advanced Coating Technology Research Center, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Graduated from Department of Chemistry of Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1988. Received her Doctor of Science degree from Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1993, entitled “Studies on the organic synthesis using sulfonium salts as alkylating reagents”. She joined National Institute of Materials and Chemical Research in 1993. Now the name of the institute has been changed National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) for reorganization. In 2011, she joined Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics as a visiting scientist. She has been engaged in research on organic chemistry, photochemistry and material chemistry. Her current research topics include chemical modification of polymer and carbon materials using organic- and photochemical techniques.

Title : Low dissipation loss polyimide molecular design for RF application
Dr. Tomikawa Masao (Toray Industries Inc.)
Abstract : Polymer insulation materials are required for high frequency operation as proceeding the 5G telecommunication and millimeter radar technologies. I will show the low dissipation loss resin based from polyimides suitable for those good materials properties.
Dr. Masao Tomikawa is research fellow of Toray Industries Inc., He obtained his BS and MS. in agriculture at The University Tokyo, Engineering Doctor’s degree (Ph.D.) at Tokyo Institute Technology. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Akron from 1992 to 1994.
and awarded from The Chemical Society Japan (2007) and The Society of Polymer Science Japan (1991), and Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation for unique Patent. In addition, he obtained best paper award from SMTA Panpacific Conference at 2018. He has many papers and patens. He is a specialist of photo sensitive polyimide chemistry and materials for micro-electronics.
